Deepa Khari is not only a passionate healthcare professional but also a devoted mother and first generation American. Born and raised in India, Deepa’s upbringing in a culture deeply rooted in holistic healing traditions has shaped her approach to wellness. Her journey to the United States, where she pursued her education and built a family, has given her a deep appreciation for blending traditional wisdom with modern medical practices.
Deepa earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Arizona University in 2011, followed by her Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in 2017. As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, she spent years working in family practice, chronic disease management, and hospice care before discovering her true passion for functional medicine. Inspired by her own experiences and those of her family and patients, Deepa became certified in functional medicine in 2024 to offer a more personalized, root-cause approach to health.
As a mother of three, Deepa understands firsthand the complexities of managing health, family life, and well-being. Like so many others, Deepa recognized early in her career that the American model of disease management was not only ineffective, it was often harming the very people it claimed to help. She worked tirelessly to acquire the necessary certification to being a new kind of practice—a place where women and men can discover lasting health and life full of living potential. Her personal experiences, both as a healthcare provider and as a mother navigating the demands of life, help her relate to her patients on a deeper level, offering empathy and care as she guides them toward holistic wellness.
About The Local Wellness Project
Deepa founded the Local Wellness Project on the belief that everyone deserves access to personalized, holistic healthcare that addresses their unique needs. She envisioned a high-engagement experience with patients who are directly interested in quality of life and personal wellness. The Local Wellness Project is dedicated to empowering patients through education, functional medicine, and individualized treatment plans that restore balance and support the body’s natural ability to heal.
Near Future
We are beginning on a small scale, focusing on telehealth services for rural Arizonans who may not have access to the care they need. But our vision extends far beyond this. The Local Wellness Project aims to grow into a thriving community of individuals and families dedicated to living with purpose, wellness, and hope. As we evolve, we plan to host community events, offer in-person visits, and provide youth and family support, all while delivering long-term health solutions. For those ready to embark on a journey toward lasting wellness, The Local Wellness Project will be a trusted partner every step of the way.
At The Local Wellness Project, we take a patient-centered approach, working with you to design a personalized plan that fits your specific symptoms and goals. Whether you’re struggling with hormone imbalances, metabolic dysfunction, gut health issues, or other chronic health conditions, we offer advanced solutions that go beyond treating symptoms. Our mission is to guide patients on their journey to better health by addressing the underlying causes of their issues and providing ongoing support every step of the way.
Deepa believes that true wellness requires a whole-body approach and focusing on the root causes of illness rather than just managing symptoms. Her goal as a provider is to help you reclaim your health and live your best life. With personalized consultations, thorough assessments, and tailored treatment plans, she is committed to helping patients achieve long-term vitality and well-being. Whether through hormone therapy, gut health optimization, or metabolic care, her purpose is to provide the tools, education, and support you need to thrive.
The Dream
As The Local Wellness Project continues to grow, the vision is to expand its reach both locally and nationally over the next 5 to 10 years. The goal is to redefine healthcare in America by offering a new model of medicine that truly addresses the whole person. While the current Western healthcare system—particularly in the U.S.—focuses primarily on acute care, it often neglects the holistic, whole-body approach that is essential for long-term wellness. Deepa envisions The Local Wellness Project bringing this comprehensive, patient-centered care to rural communities across the country, providing families with the holistic care they need to thrive, no matter where they live.
